Each year, it seems that there is another memorial ornament to hang on the Christmas tree.
Welcome to middle age, I guess.
The top of this year’s tree is loaded with memorial ornaments and pet collars of departed pets. While the sheer number of the dearly departed is a bit shocking, I don’t mind that the Christmas tree has become a memorial tree of sorts.
It’s a nice way to reflect on those we shared so many holidays with, and who will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Do you hang memorial ornaments or otherwise honor the departed during your holiday celebrations?
I know these holidays must be hard for you … the first without both your parents. I could see how those ornaments might make you feel like those dearly departed are still with you. I do have a couple of ornaments for past beloved pets. My grandma gave my mom some delicate glass ornaments when she got married. My mom never used them for whatever reason. I’m guessing she might’ve thought they were too delicate to put up with kids in the house … I don’t know. Anyway, I got them when I got married 30 years ago. I don’t always put up a tree, but when I do, I use them. I think they’re beautiful.
May you find comfort and peace this holiday season, Joy.
That’s neat that you have treasured ornaments handed down in the family. Glad you can enjoy them.
